about

'apathetic empath' was originally intended to be the first part of the last daggers//cloaks release, a double lp cumulatively titled 'YOUR KILLING FLOOR.' Both parts of YKF were recorded in 2018. It was not my intention to sit on the material for so long; I wanted to release YKF as the capstone to daggers//cloaks after I decided to end the project, but shit didn't work out that way. Indeed YKF probably won't be the last actual daggers//cloaks release, as I have several other completed projects I've been sitting on for just as long if not longer.

I made YKF as a way to process everything that happened to me during my time in the quad cities diy scene and in the aftermath of my sexual assault. Many of the tracks that would become 'apathetic empath' were originally recorded in an attempt to get myself to loosen up and make songs that were more playful or less serious in subject matter or tone. Other tracks are related to specific experiences and/or people in the qc that were positive and/or important to me. i see this lp as a tableau of myself at a time when I still possessed my innocence (though of course I did not feel or think that in the moment). Though originally intended as a stand-alone LP, I decided to join 'apathetic empath' to 'YOUR KILLING FLOOR' as a way to contextualize the latter, and to wrap up a 5-year chapter of my life into a single body of work.

As I have been functionally on hiatus for several years now, I have no intentions of merchandising or promoting this project in any way. I'm just glad to finally be able to put it out as YKF cumulatively represents the most I have ever put in to a noise release. Special thanks to my friends and enemies for making all of this possible. See y'all on the other side.
